An
amazing story by John Lilly.

Well, this is never a good sign.
When I pulled into the storage yard, the unit my kit was in had
been burned to the ground by an arsonist the day before.
I found out by reading the newspaper, but I had no idea it was MY
exact unit... my building!
**Note the building across the lot. THAT is what my unit used to
look like - two stories! |
 |
A
few days later, they let me in.
As I got closer, my heart began to sink. On top of all the earlier
loss, I now saw that my drums - my companions of nearly ten years
- were probably gone.
I realize it was only material stuff, and I was thankful nobody
got hurt... but these were MY DRUMS! |
 |
|
As
I was about to enter the building I was very apprehensive.
I felt like the family that had to come and identify the body.
Since I had just put the stuff in storage less than two weeks
prior, I had no insurance.
I had already dreamt that my drums were toast. I had already begun
the grieving process before I even got to go in to see the damage.
|
 |
When
I got in the unit, the smell of burnt wood and plastic filled the
air, but I noticed that the drums cases were not totally melted...
the shape of drums was still discernible.
Was there hope after all? My heart beat faster as I moved piles
of rubbish and got to the water soaked cases. I thought to myself
"Hhmmmmm... water still on the outside means no fire on the inside" |
 |
I
hadn't known this up until then, but the covering on my Beato Bags
was water tight. While the fire torched everything around, the fire
hoses doused the cases pretty thoroughly.
This bass drum case had standing water about two inches deep on
top of it for nearly two weeks before I turned it over and cleaned
the ashen mud away. |
 |
Unbelievably,
ALL of my drums were protected from this rampage. The Beato Bags
were effectively destroyed, but they protected the drums... they
did their job and more!
I have no idea what circumstances led to my drums being spared when
other things simply melted or burned. I can only attribute their
survival to Beato Bags.
Beato Bags pay for themselves many times over... when you least
suspect it. |
